How to do it
Press your lower back flat against the floor for the entire set.
- 1
Lie on the floor with a dumbbell in one hand, arm extended above your chest.
- 2
With a slight bend in your elbow, lower your arm out to the side, keeping it at shoulder level.
- 3
Bring the dumbbell back up to the starting position in a wide arc motion.
- 4
Perform the desired number of repetitions before switching to the other arm.
Expert tip
Keep a slight bend in your elbow throughout the movement to protect your joints and ensure that the chest muscles are doing the work.
Common mistakes
- ✕Dropping the arm below shoulder level
- ✕Rolling the torso toward the weighted side
- ✕Pressing the weight up instead of arcing
