How to do it

Grip the handle firmly and white-knuckle it for the entire set.

  1. 1

Stand with a kettlebell on the outside of one foot, feet hip-width apart.

  2. 2

Bend at the hips and knees, keeping your back straight, and grip the kettlebell handle with one hand.

  3. 3

Engage your core and lift the kettlebell by straightening your hips and knees, keeping the weight close to your side.

  4. 4

Lower the kettlebell back to the floor with control.

  5. 5

Repeat for the desired number of repetitions before switching to the other side.

Expert tip

Keep your core braced and your body symmetrical to avoid tilting to one side, which can put undue stress on your spine.

Common mistakes

  • ✕Rounding the lower back during the lift
  • ✕Letting the working shoulder drop forward
  • ✕Placing the kettlebell too far from the foot
