How to do it

Take a deep breath and brace your core before each descent.

  1. 1

Begin with a barbell across your front shoulders, with your hands crossed to hold it in place or in a front rack position.

  2. 2

    Stand with feet shoulder-width apart.

  3. 3

Lower into a squat, keeping your back straight and elbows high.

  4. 4

Pause at the bottom for a count of two.

  5. 5

Drive through your heels to return to the starting position.

  6. 6

Repeat for the desired number of repetitions.

Expert tip

Keep your elbows high throughout the movement to ensure the barbell stays securely in position.
