How to do it
Drive your elbows back past your ribs rather than flaring them outward.
- 1
Stand with your feet shoulder-width apart, knees slightly bent.
- 2
Bend forward at the waist while keeping your back straight.
- 3
Hold the barbell with an overhand grip, slightly wider than shoulder-width.
- 4
Pull the bar towards your lower chest, squeezing your shoulder blades together.
- 5
Pause and hold the contraction at the top.
- 6
Slowly lower the bar back to the starting position.
- 7
Repeat for the desired number of repetitions.
Expert tip
Maintain a neutral spine and avoid rounding your back. Pause at the top of the movement to enhance muscle contraction in the back.
Common mistakes
