How to do it

Drive your feet firmly into the floor to anchor your body on the ball.

  1. 1

Sit on a stability ball with dumbbells in each hand.

  2. 2

Walk your feet forward and lie back until your upper back and shoulders are supported by the ball.

  3. 3

Press the dumbbells up over your chest with a slight bend in your elbows.

  4. 4

Lower the dumbbells out to the sides, creating a wide arc until you feel a stretch in your chest.

  5. 5

Squeeze your chest to bring the dumbbells back together at the top.

Expert tip

Control the movement throughout the exercise and avoid letting the dumbbells drop, as this can strain the shoulder joints.

Common mistakes

  • ✕Bending the elbows too deeply during the arc
  • ✕Hips sagging below the shoulder line
  • ✕Lowering the dumbbells past shoulder depth
